Diabetes can cause changes to the skin especially round the foot area. At times the foot may become so dry that it may peel and crack. This problem occurs because the nerve that controls the oil and moisture in the foot no longer works.
To relieve this problem it is suggested that after bathing, you should dry your feet and seal in the remaining moisture with a thin coat of either of the following products:
- Petroleum jelly
- Unscented cream which is suitable to be apply on the body
It is not suggested to put any oil or cream between your toes. This is because extra moisture can lead to skin infections. Also, it is not recommended that you soak your feet as this can also dry out your skin.
